What we can help with

Conditions and presentations we can help with

This is not an exhaustive list. Solou assesses undifferentiated musculoskeletal presentations with thorough, person-centred care and careful attention to the details shaping your symptoms, health, goals and next steps.

Neck and back pain

Neck pain, headaches related to the neck, stiffness, whiplash-related symptoms, back pain, sciatica-type symptoms and work-related pain.

Shoulder, arm, hand and wrist

Shoulder pain, tendinopathy, bursitis, frozen shoulder or capsulitis, impingement-type symptoms, elbow problems, and hand or wrist conditions including strains and post-injury stiffness.

Nerve-related symptoms

Pins and needles, numbness, burning, altered sensation or symptoms that may relate to nerve irritation or entrapment.

Hip, knee, ankle and foot

Hip and knee pain, ankle and foot problems, gluteal tendinopathy, bursitis, mobility limits and osteoarthritis, including post-injury weakness or stiffness.

Movement, activity and sport

Sporting injuries, sprains and strains, and structured return to activity with movement confidence, progressive strength, mobility and activity-specific goals.

Persistent or complex pain

Persistent or complex musculoskeletal pain, including presentations involving more than one health condition, with support focused on the whole picture and sensible next steps.

Assessment may identify when GP input, imaging, or another healthcare professional is appropriate. No diagnosis, technique or outcome is assumed in advance; care is discussed with you according to what is clinically suitable.

Your assessment may include movement, strength, sensation and appropriate neurological screening, helping guide personalised advice, treatment or onward referral where needed.

The Solou approach

Holistic physiotherapy, in plain English.

It means listening carefully, understanding you as a whole person and considering the context around your symptoms—not just the part that hurts. Together, we look for a positive, structured way forward that fits your life.

Appointments and continuity can sometimes be limited across healthcare settings, so Solou creates space for a more individualised experience. Clear explanations, meaningful goals and an agreed plan help you know what comes next.

In-person care

Mobile physiotherapy, brought to you.

For a new injury, neck or back pain, or another musculoskeletal concern, a mobile first visit in South Manchester and nearby areas normally begins with a detailed conversation, followed by an objective assessment and treatment planning. The aim is a reliable source of advice and a clear plan, not a one-size-fits-all approach.

Your first 60 minutes

Typically, around 20 minutes is spent on assessment and 40 minutes on treatment or active work. The balance can change according to what is right on the day.

What we'll discuss

Your history, what you want to get back to, what makes symptoms better or worse, and any questions you have.

Treatment and a plan you can use

Depending on your assessment, support may include soft-tissue work, massage or deep-tissue techniques where appropriate, joint mobilisation or other manual therapy where clinically appropriate, active exercise coaching, mobility work and education. Your plan may use objective testing, person-specific outcome measures and agreed goals. No particular technique is assumed.

A considered way to feel better

Massage at Solou

Massage is one treatment option within Solou's broader physiotherapy and wellbeing approach. Choose support for activity and recovery, focused work on muscular tension, or time to unwind and reconnect with your body.

Pressure, pace, focus and techniques are adapted to you. Massage can be booked as a standalone service or incorporated into an individualised physiotherapy, recovery or return-to-activity plan when appropriate; it does not promise to cure an injury or condition.

Sports massage

For people who are active, training, returning to sport, or managing muscular tension related to activity.

Deep tissue massage

Targeted work on areas of muscular tightness and tension, where appropriate and agreed with you.

Relaxation massage

A slower, calming treatment for people seeking time to rest, unwind and reconnect with their body.

Care for the longer journey

Support for persistent or complex pain.

Complex pain is not always managed well in the UK. People can find themselves relying heavily on medication, while sometimes feeling unheard or misunderstood by doctors and other healthcare professionals. Solou offers a supportive space to slow down, feel listened to and have your lived experience understood, with assessment, education and treatment support that considers the whole picture.

An individual plan might include pacing, mindfulness, breathing, building movement confidence and finding consistency that works in real life. We can discuss appropriate next steps together without assuming that everyone needs the same approach.

Solou is physiotherapy-led rather than psychological therapy, but it draws on extensive experience of listening to and supporting people living with persistent pain. If other support would help, we can talk about onward referral.

The person behind Solou

Clinical experience, with room to listen.

Solou is led by Andy, a first-contact physiotherapist by background, with extensive musculoskeletal experience and daily experience managing MSK conditions in the NHS. That work includes advanced differential diagnosis and management planning, approached with care and clinical judgement.

A thorough assessment can also help people understand when GP input or further diagnostic assessment may be appropriate. The aim is to explain the options clearly and work with you on sensible next steps.

Solou brings together Sun and Soul. The name also quietly honours my mother, Louise. Her memory is part of the warmth, patience and attention I hope people feel here.
